· They used chinampas, which is a method of farming that used small, rectangular areas to grow crops on beds in the Mexican valley.
· They also used terracing, which is another method that created wall of stones in hillsides, then the stones would fill in to create deeper soil.
· The main crop grown in Aztec agriculture was maize, or corn.
· Other important crops were squash, beans, sweet potatoes, and potatoes during the time.
· Maize, squash, and beans, during the time, were called “The Three Sisters” because they were planted together so the soil would keep its nutrients, which would ensure that the crops grow well, and people get the healthy food we need for our bodies.
· On the dry lands, the farmers would grow cotton, cacti, and maguey, which is a term for certain types of agave.
