Aztec Art

HEY GUYS! In this post, we are going to talk about Aztec art.

There was no actual word for art in the Aztec language. Instead, the Aztecs used the word toltecat. This word comes from the ancient people called Toltecs. They came before the Aztecs, and when the Aztecs were exploring their ruins, they were in awe of the giant statues and paintings that the Toltecs had created. In fact, whoever the ruling family of the Aztecs were, they would claim to be descended from the Toltecs. If you were part of the common folk, it would be unlikely that you were allowed to own art. If you were creating the art to sell, it would be an exception, but some of the art would have to go to the upper classes without the upper classes paying.

Common Types of Art

Above is a picture of an authentic Aztec fresco with a snake on it. The Aztecs made had very many types of art, including: richly colored clothing, ceremonial knives, head dresses, frescoes, masks, and many other types.
This is a photograph of a Aztec Mosaic mask. It is made out of bits of stone, and it was found in Mexico. Because it is so cool, it is now the background to this blog!
